Happy 4th of July my loves!

♥ ♥ ♥
Not going to lie, mine is going to be pretty boring. Matt has to work and I have the day week off from school, so not much has been going on.
We do plan to have a little date night of drinks and fireworks though!
♥ ♥ ♥

♥ ♥ ♥
I’ve heard good things about this wine so I am excited to try it. And I got the red just because I can! Why so excited about red wine you ask? Well I had the clear braces for over a year and a half and could not drink red wine due to the possibility of it staining the braces/bands. But now that I am no longer a brace face, I decided it was time to red wine it up! So I’m pretty excited about it.
♥ ♥ ♥
But since this is still What I Ate Wednesday and all let’s get to some eats.
The lovely Jenn did it again and gave us another fun theme to follow.
I’m kind of excited about this one and I will tell you why in a minute.
Me and fitness have a love hate relationship.See fitness kind of got me in trouble in the past. Well, I guess it really wasn’t fitness’ fault, it was my own obsessive fault. But when things started to get bad with my eating disorder, I had a real bad relationship with fitness. I worked out to work off what I felt I over ate on. What I didn’t need. The extra. The bad.Not a good reason to work out.♥ ♥ ♥Fitness to me now is to be healthy. Not to work off that “extra bite of cookie” or “piece of cake”. Because let’s be honest. Neither of those will not make me gain 10 pounds over night. Not even a piece of cake everyday will do that. We’re suppose to enjoy food, not dwell and punish ourselves for eating it.But I am happy to report, recently actually, I have been given the go ahead to start strength training! Woo-Hoo!I am finally at a healthy body fat percentage to where my nutritionist wants me to focus on building muscle.♥ ♥ ♥I was nervous at first. Me and fitness haven’t spoken for awhile and I wasn’t sure I could have a healthy relationship with it, but I am happy to report so far so good!I now don’t focus on cardio and burning calories. I am focusing on strength training. Getting toned and building muscle. It’s a total new experience for me and I love it.Me and Fitness Blender have a real nice relationship too. It’s getting pretty serious. They offer so many great videos and I love the variety.♥ ♥ ♥This morning I did a little warm up and some free weights/resistance bands on my own, then followed up with this guy.
10 minutes, yes. Kicked my butt abs. Yes. Love it.I really want to get a gym membership soon, however, finances right now won’t allow it. So online video’s will have to suffice for now. But again, I’m just happy to be able to do this.
♥ ♥ ♥So since I am trying to build muscle and all I am trying to incorporate more protein in my diet.Kasey at PowerCakes has some amazing recipes. Obviously famous for her powercakes. These were something I had always wanted to try, but I didn’t know if I actually needed that much protein in the morning as I was leading a pretty sedentary lifestyle at the time.I decided it was time to finally try one.(Disclaimer. These are photo’s from her site as my first powercake did not turn out pretty. I couldn’t salvage it, but it was tasty enough that I really wanted to share it with you guys.)
I more or less followed the recipe for her Chocolate PB & J Powercake. With a few changes, of course, we all know who we’re talking to here, like I could ever follow a recipe 100%.Mine may not have been this pretty, but I will tell you it was pretty tasty.I see PowerCakes in my future again!♥ ♥ ♥For lunch an old favorite made an appearance.
Soy Chocolate Vanilla Pudding Panini.Yup switched it up with the vanilla, and I also used Ezekial Cinnamon Raisin bread. Totally made the sandwich!♥ ♥ ♥Well loves I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and really enjoy this time to remember what makes our country so great and that is our freedom. And I hope you have some good eats too!!♥ ♥ ♥What are your 4th of July plans?Do you have any online work out video recommendations? DVDs?
You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
Happy WIAW! Like the PB & J Power Cake. Looks yummy!
I love your attitude towards exercise, really. I always tend do overdo it and relyon it far too much,so I admire your ability to think rationally and keep it balanced!
On another note, vanilla pudding panini sound amazing! How do you do it,if I may ask?
I’m intrigued by both of your recipes. What exactly is a Soy Vanilla Pudding Panini. Inquiring minds
Always looking for ways to add protein so I’m off to check out the PowerCakes!
[Fitness, Health and Happiness]
I basically take a container of soy pudding, slather it on my bread, add whatever add-ins i’m feeling and stick it on the panini grill! sounds weird, but it works!
That sandwich looks amazing! I love Kasey’s site and her powercakes are so awesome! Mine never come out as pretty as hers either! I can totally relate
I love the tone it up girls for online workouts! They do a lot of strength training and HIIT over at toneitup.com
I am looking for an online yoga source so that I can learn enough moves to qualify me as “whatever word means not a beginner but intermediate sounds way too advanced” in the Vinyasa I want to take at my gym! If you get any recs for that, let me know.
Glad you are healthily (healthfully?) reentering the world of strength training. After spending my whole life never considering myself a runner, I’m now contemplating actually entering a race. I mean, a 5K or a 4-Miler may not SOUND tough, but still…
Happy 4th! [Let me know how that wine is...I want to hate Bethenny Frankel for some reason, but I just don't.]
Honestly I thought the red was horrible! I don’t even want to finish the bottle! I heard the mixed drinks are good?
I have a guilty pleasure for her show, but the fact that she flat out said she had “eating problems” and a bad relationship with food while writing her book made me lose a lot of respect for her. If you can admit you have food issues why are you writing a book telling others how to be healthy? She may be better now I don’t follow the gossip world but I will said the red skinny girl wine was a big disappointment in my opinion. Maybe I lost my taste for red wine?
Congratulations in progressing in your recovery! I hope that it never gets obsessive again – I think that staying away from the cardio and keeping session to TOPS 4 or 5 days a week, and not very long, should help. It’s especially hard when you blog, since a lot of bloggers overdo it, but don’t realize it or refuse to realize it. Stay strong!
Oh, and that PB&J powercake looks amazing – pinned it! I’m your newest follower, I hope you’ll take a look at my blog and follow me back via Google Friend Connect if you like it

yea thankfully i see a nutritionist who helps me along my fitness way. right now i’m “allowed” 3-4 days 20 minutes. do i do more sometimes? maybe. but it’s not in the obsessive way it use to be and now im focusing on muscle, not cardio.
Oh god the evilness of braces. I had clear ones too, so I had to avoid pretty much everything. I prefer white wine though anyways. Red wine stains my lips and sometimes can be too bitter for me. I love skinny girl though.
yup. i’m just a white wine person too. Moscatos and Rieslings. Yum!
I’ve been wanting to try those skinnygirl things, are they any good?
I’m the hugest fan of abs. I do them sometimes just for the fun of it. Hurry up muscles, let’s get going!
I follow a whole bunch of work out videos on youtube, which is great. I like anything that changes it up and doesn’t involve fancy equipment that I don’t have. You can even find interval timers on youtube!
i was NOT a fan of the red. i actually thought it was horrible. but i have heard good things about the mixed drinks, but i haven’t tried any. don’t really know that i will.
any specific youtube videos you can recommend or do you just randomly search for what you want to focus on that day?
10 minutes of abs is totally all you need. Ouch.
It’s kind of silly but all the 8 minute videos from the early 90s on YouTube are actually great, quick workouts. I like 8 Min Arms and 8 Min Abs. You can find them easily with a search
especially if you combine it with something else a good 8-10 minute work out is great. or if i’m in a rush, but want to do something.
thanks for the suggestions!
I love the SkinnyGirl Margarita mix, but I have never tried the wine…I will have to find myself some of that!
[...] as my recent go-to inspiration I headed over to Pinterest. It being What I Ate Wednesday recently didn’t hurt either. Talk about [...]
I honestly think that the best workouts are short. If they make my muscles burn and I feel accomplished afterwards, I am will be much more likely to do them again. If they are quick and I see results, I WILL do them again!
Man, I wish that I could always use the pics from other blogger’s websites. Mine never look quite up to par, and most of the time they look so completely removed from the original recipe that I change their name.
Hi there, i just wanted to drop you a line to say that i thoroughly enjoyed this particular post of yours, I have subscribed to your RSS feeds and have skimmed a few of your posts before but this one really stood out for me. I know that I am just a stranger to you but I figured you might appreciate the appreciation Take care and keep blogging.
