Loves right now my kitchen smells amazing!

For Christmas my mom got me a hand blender and also included a family recipe for poppy seed cake.

One of my cousins made it for my grandma’s funeral and it was actually my first time having it.  I am Slovakian and my mom always made traditional cookies, pumpkin rolls and cakes for the holidays, so I love that she passed down a family recipe to me.

Well I decided to bake this evening. I have never actually made a cake from scratch, and I know baking can be tricky in terms of exact measurements, so I am a bit nervous. I also destroyed my kitchen in the process, but that’s all part of baking right?

The cake is currently cooling so I haven’t tasted it yet, but if it tastes as good as it’s smelling right now, I have high expectations!

(edit: I burnt the top. boo.)

This weekend was a blur due to work being insane this whole week and Saturday as well.  Seriously I have never had so many crazy stressful days in a row. On Friday we had three unscheduled C-sections that came in, the second one having major complications.  After hearing a third was coming in, we all just decided to order pizza for lunch because we had no idea if we were even going to be able to have a minute to sit and rest.

We also got cheesecake.  And you know if this girl actually ate meat on her pizza, you know it was one of those days. We all kind of laughed how we ate our emotions away with food. We were all so stressed and tired that pizza and sweets just totally hit the spot in the best way possible.

Saturday wasn’t much better.

Again super busy and not a minute to stop.

Thankfully my co-worker had brought in a diabetes roll fruity pebble rice krispy treat roll.

Seriously after half of this I was in a sugar coma.

Kept me going for the day though.

Needless to say after work all I wanted was a drink.

It was also a gorgeous day so I really wanted to sit outside somewhere and just relax. We headed over to Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers because they have a great patio and a great beer selection.

Matt and I have been trying to be good with our money and our intentions were really just to have one beer and go home.

Something about being out…drinking… well.

Something else happened.

A first for me. (which seems to be a shock to a lot of people)

I had my very first Chipotle experience.

Yes friends. I had never eaten at Chipotle before.

We decided to take it to-go and eat at home and I kind of made a joke that to celebrate the experience we should have a little picnic in the living room.

I was mostly joking, but after coming back from the bedroom, this was set up!

Seriously, how cute is that. It was actually quite fun sitting on the floor eating our Chiptole.

So my verdict?

I still prefer Qdoba, I wasn’t too impressed with the chicken in my bowl, but the fajita vegetables and salsa helped make up for it. Matt got the barbacoa which was really good, but a bit too spicy for me to eat a lot of it.  But I will say, Chipotle’s guacamole was the bomb. I dominated that stuff all on my own. All the guac for me!

So as per usual my weekend was way too short and it’s back to the grind, but hey, the little fun times can make this Monday marvelous. Right Katie?
