shake, shake, shake it up [giveaway]

We all know how I love my protein powders, so when I was given the opportunity to try their shakes (and knowing how good their snacks were) I jumped at the chance.

The powders kind of reminded me of Carnation Instant Breakfasts and yes I could have just mixed them with milk like directed to make a shake, but we all know me and I don’t walk down the beaten path. I of course had to be a little bit more creative.

You guessed it.

Since I am still on the Protein Plantain Pizza kick (and don’t plan getting off it any time soon) I decided to use the chocolate as one of my toppings. It mixes quite well and didn’t need much liquid to make the frosting, a huge plus in my book.

So since the chocolate worked so well, I decided I needed a little pink in my morning.

What? Another Protein Plantain Pizza? Yes. But the frosting stole the show.

Not only was this actually quite tasty, but seriously, I love anything pink.

I had to experiment more with the shakes and I am known for adding protein powder to almost…well almost everything.

The next thing I added the Extend shake too was my night time snack.

Strawberry Greek yogurt with a healthy chocolate drizzle.

I took 1/2 packet of the strawberry Extend nutritional shake and mixed it in with plain Chobani Greek yogurt.  I spread the yogurt mix over a Wasa Multi Grain Crispbread and I then made my healthy chocolate sauce (unsweetened cocoa+almond milk+stevia) and drizzled it on top.

Oh my was this delish. Chocolate strawberry goodness. I do believe this combination will happen again.

And then we all know my love for overnight prOATs. So what did I decide to add to a recent bowl?

You guessed it, the Extend nutritional shake.
I used the vanilla and in addition to vanilla nut extract and a sprinkle down pour of cinnamon I had a delicious bowl of oats waiting for me for breakfast.

Topped with the traditional frozen banana, granola sprinkle and some raisins for good measure.

Since these shakes could be used as a meal replacement,  and even though I didn’t use a full serving, it was amazing how much more filling this bowl of oats was.

Let’s have a chat shall we?

A survey chat!!

I mean it is Marvelous In My Monday time and all, so what a better time than to get to know each other again.

It’s been awhile. So let’s get re-acquainted!

1.  What did you eat for breakfast?

This one might be a shocker. I made myself a powercake. Looked kind of like this. I swear these never get old and my flavor combinations are endless.

2.  How much water do you drink a day?

This is something I am working on. I drink a decent amount of water in the morning, but other than with dinner that’s about it. I kind of got back on the diet pop kick, which I need to get off ASAP.

3.  What is your current favorite workout?

I am currently doing the Fitmixer Boot Camp, so those work outs have kind of taken over my routine. Something I found out that I thought would never happen, I love tabata work outs. I think my ADD has something to do with it, but on and off and changing what I’m doing frequently seems to work for me. Love it.

4.  How many calories do you eat a day?

Couldn’t tell you. I jumped off that calorie counting train and couldn’t be happier.  I now focus on eating balanced meals with my carbs/proteins/fats and it seems to be working for me. You want to talk about taking a load off, stop counting calories and just listen to your body.

5.  What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Greek yogurt and fruit, raw nuts, veggies and hummus and does nut butter straight from the jar count?

6.  What do you usually eat for lunch?

Sadly lunches are boring for me. Usually I am eating at school or on the go, so honestly, it’s a lot of pb&j, yogurt and a piece of fruit, usually a banana.

7.  What is your favorite body part to strength train?

My upper-body because I feel it is my weakest, but I love seeing the results I am getting. I’ll do a pull up yet, you just watch!

8.  What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

Um. I really don’t know. If anything I will say my abs, because they are a part that I feel I don’t see any results in. I know I know, abs are made in the kitchen. But the day I stop eating bread… well that will be the day. And it’s not going to happen anytime soon. This girl loves her carbs.

9.  What are your ‘bad’ food cravings?

I’m not going to answer this, because I think no food is “bad”. Food is food. None is good none is bad. I believe everything is fine in moderation. If I have greasy pizza one night, guess what, I probably won’t want it again tomorrow. (ok knowing me and pizza I probably will, but you get the point). I truly believe our bodies are smarter than we think, and they balance themselves out. So if I am craving ice cream, I’m going to have it. Same goes with pasta, cream sauces, bread, fried foods, pizza, all those foods society tells us will make us fat (and probably over night right?). It’s just not true.

10.  Do you take vitamins or supplements?

I take a few vitamins my nutritionist recommended. A multi-vitamin, vitamin B and calcium.

I also love cooking and baking with protein powder since I don’t eat a lot of meat. Do I really need it? Meh, probably not, but I guess it’s not hurting me right now.

11.  How often do you eat out?

Well, not often. And if you read my last post, probably even less often now.

Which is sad.

I’m really going to miss sushi.

12.  Do you eat fast food?

Very rarely. I feel like if I am going to spend money on out to eat food, I’m going to make it worth it and have it be something good.

13.  Who is your biggest supporter?

Well this one is a no brainer.

14.  Do you have a gym membership?

No and I really wish I did. Again. Stupid money. I did recently get a stability ball for Christmas, and we picked up a new dumb bell set. So my little “at home gym” is growing.

15.  How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

Oi. I’m such an old lady, I get plenty of sleep. I swear I’m in bed by 10:30pm each night. Granted I get up at 7am, but that’s still my recommended 8 hours. Go me!

16.  Do you have a ‘cheat’ day?

I don’t. And as I mentioned earlier, I don’t think you should have to. You’re not cheating. It’s all about moderation.

17.  Do you drink alcohol?

Yes, I do. I like beer. I like wine. #sorryimnotsorry

18.  Do you have a workout buddy?

Not really. But honestly, I like it that way. I’m competitive by nature and sometimes that’s good, but sometimes I like just being by  myself and motivating and pushing myself, not worrying about what someone else is lifting, how long someone else is running, or what exercises someone else is doing.

19.  What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a Healthy Lifestyle?

I always thought I was being healthy, but recently realized I was always too focused on just one aspect about it. It’s not just diet. It’s not just exercise. It’s just about being overall healthy and finding the balance between the two. So yes, I like to eat healthy and put good foods in my body. And in terms of my fitness, I no longer focus on the cardio cardio cardio and just burning calories. I am more focused on strength and muscle building. I no longer was to lose, I want to gain.  Finding that balance has also brought me so much more mental health.

20.  What was the last healthy thing you did?

Having a positive attitude. So much has gone wrong in my life, and I am currently at yet another bump in my road, but you will still see me with a smile on my face and a positive attitude. Being mentally healthy I think is the most important and being grateful for what I have, not what I don’t have has really changed my outlook on life.

I have my health, my life, and people who love me. What else do I need?

PB2 review

So loves I have a wonderful product to share with you, although I know most of you have heard of it, if not used it as well.

Here around blog land they are pretty well known.

It’s this company called Bell Plantation, and they make a wonderful product called PB2

Now I am going to start off by saying, I honestly think nothing can substitute the real thing. I am a peanut butter snob/addict, but I will say this stuff has some pretty good uses.  Especially if you’re baking with it, putting it in smoothies, adding it to oatmeal, or using it in other dips/spreads. And of course if you want to cut out 85% of the fat and calories.

So in my opinion, not a re-placer for the real thing, but still an amazing product with tons of uses.

The company was awesome enough to send me some goodies to try out and review.

And to be honest, I literally squealed a bit when my package came.

One of the main reasons for my over excitement was I have a new addiction that I have been making and consuming probably a little too quickly for my own good.

As if I could ever follow a recipe exactly, I made a tasty concoction based on STUFT Mama’s Healthy Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Dip.

Here’s a peek at what I put into mine. (of course with a dashes of this here and dashes of that there)

But the star of this show? The PB2 hands down. It gives it that perfect peanut butter taste.

And since it doesn’t have nearly the amount of fat and calories, I don’t feel as bad when my finger goes in the bowl numerous times during the day. No really. I can’t open the fridge with out dipping something into it. I seriously started putting it in the back of the fridge so I couldn’t.

You think I’m joking.

Another way I enjoy my PB2? On cereal/greek yogurt messes of course.

Chobani vanilla greek yogurt topped with a mix of cereals, frozen banana, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Drizzled with lovely PB2 Chocolate.

This was a bowl of heaven.

And one more of my own tasty concoctions that I made was my breakfast Peanut Butter Smoothie.

This thing was delish.

Strawberry Banana PB2 Green Smoothie

1/2 frozen banana

1 cup frozen strawberries

1 heaping handful of baby spinach

2 tbsp PB2

1 cup almond milk (more or less depending on thickness)

Perfect pre-school breakfast!

So overall, I think this is a great product. Again, nothing will win the spot of real peanut butter in my heart, maybe because I’m lazy and don’t want to have to “make it”, but all in all, I like the product, I like that it’s made from all natural ingredients with no preservatives or artificial sweeteners. And  on top of all that, the company was super awesome to work with!

wiaw 39 – let’s get fruity

As the title says, let’s get fruity! I am been on such a fresh fruit kick lately, it’s been a bit ridiculous.

Ridiculous in the best way possible of course.

I mean really how can you go wrong with fruit?

Now I still love my veggies, don’t get me wrong, but there is something about summer and warm weather that makes me crave everything fruit.

So since it is that time of the week. Oh yes, What I Ate Wednesday time, I thought I would show case some of my lovely meals and snacks that include fruit. Because there have been a lot of them.

I have also oddly enough been on a cereal kick as well.

I took a huge break from it, and I guess my body missed it. Craved it. I gave in to it.

But you can’t just have a plain ole bowl of cereal.

That would be boring. And we don’t like to be boring around here.

This was a yogurt mess of a cereal bowl. And topped with what? Of yes. Tons of fruit.

There was a Chobani vanilla greek yogurt in there, topped with a mix of cereals, frozen banana, fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. A lovely drizzle of PB2 to top it off.

This bowl was so good, it had to be repeated a few days later.

This one was pretty tasty as well. Instead of greek yogurt, I made a cottage cheese mess. Topped with of course a mesh of cereals, frozen banana, strawberries, raspberries, and you guessed it, a peanut butter drizzle.

Usually I say time has been flying, but boy has time been dragging!

Not in an all bad way, but since I am not as busy, I actually get to enjoy my time and not worry about everything getting done.

I’ve mentioned a few times about my battle with boredom, but as of late (and of course as things are about to change again) I am embracing my time off.

Getting a little crafty. Cleaning. Just getting things done and not rushing.

Relaxing.

If you read my baking adventures post, you know I’ve had some free time in the kitchen. Time to actually prepare meals.

So I know the theme for What I Ate Wednesday is sensible snacking, I thought I would show you some of the lovely things I’ve been able to create with my extra time.

This really isn’t a new dish, more of a twist on an old favorite.

I haven’t really had oatmeal in forever. I don’t know. I just got in a rut of other things. And with it being so hot oatmeal didn’t always pop in my mind for breakfast. Solution? Over night oats of course.

And this was one tasty batch.

No really. It was pretty amazing.

Chocolate Pumpkin Protein Overnight Oats

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 cup almond milk (I used Almond Breeze Unsweetened Chocolate)

1/2 cup pumpkin

1 tbsp protein powder

1 tbsp cocoa

vanilla extract to taste (I used about 1/2 tbsp)

sweetener of choice to taste (stevia, sugar, maple syrup, agave)

Um yea. Tasty.

If you like thicker overnight oats  you can add greek yogurt as well.

Topped with banana and the local granola I picked up at the farmers market.

This will probably happen again soon. Very soon.

To stay on the snacking theme. I did whip up a batch of these puppies.

I got the idea from Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean.

Now mine aren’t as pretty, but I promise you they were just as tasty.

I didn’t have chocolate on hand, so I did the next best thing.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Frosting.

I took some PB2 and Sun Warrior chocolate protein powder, made a little frosting and dipped the yogurt bites into it and let it freeze some more.

In my frozen bites were Chobani Pomegranate greek yogurt, local granola, dipped in the above mentioned concoction.

These were an awesome little snack to grab.

Ok honestly, I had no intentions of taking a picture of this, but it was so good and I knew I wanted to share it, that I took this mid-eating.

I’m sorry. And a bit embarrassed. But I will tell you, it was delicious.

(ps I tried Trader Joe’s rice tortilla’s for the first time. Ah-mazing. What don’t I love at Trader Joe’s? Seriously.)

I whipped up some ranch dressing using a plain Chobani and ranch mix. Oh. Amazing.

I love ranch.

wiaw #36 – return of the smoothie

Hello loves.

It has been so lovely not having to study and read 24/7. I almost don’t know what to do with all my spare time. It’s funny how when you’re go go go all you want to do is relax.  And when you’re able to relax, it’s like, well now what do I do with myself.  But it has been nice to actually be able to get some cooking and baking done.

But that will be at a later date. Now it is time for the party.

The party we call What I Ate Wednesday.

As I mentioned before, I have a general class this month, which I am actually auditing so it doesn’t even count, but that means I am back to 7am classes. Yay. (note sarcasm).

I really don’t mind getting up that early, but it totally messes with my schedule.

But I learned last time I had an early class of what works for me.

Smoothies for the ride in! I can’t have a full breakfast that early, it just doesn’t work for me, but a smoothie tides me over until I can have a proper breakfast.

Monday Matt and I made a Trader Joe’s run and I made sure to stock up on some frozen berries! And a few other things of course.

I seriously can walk into that store for one thing and come out with 20. It always happens.

(For example all those pizza making ingredients. Not on the list. O’well. Worse things could happen.)

This morning’s smoothie was a lovely one. I missed smoothies.

In the mix:

1 cup vanilla almond milk

1/2 cup frozen mixed berries

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

huge handful of spinach

1 scoop chocolate protein powder

2 tbsp oats

a generous scoop of PB Crave Coco Bananas peanut butter

Oh my was this thing delish.

But adding peanut butter to anything really does the trick.

My smoothies always looks gross, but I promise you they are super tasty.

I guess I was missing my normal breakfast’s because for lunch I had breakfast.

And dinner.

Oh loves, I have been doing so well with challenging myself.

I actually made the decision to go out. And no, I didn’t choose my safe sushi.

I chose Mexican food.

After my first challenge with my nutritionist, I remembered how much I loved Mexican food. And yes, I can make 100′s of Mexican recipes at home, but honestly, as good as a cook as I like to think I am, nothing beats going out.

So that’s what I did.

Like normal people right? Right.

And I did not regret it at all.

We had decided to try a new to us Mexican restaurant, Blanco Tacos & Tequila. I actually got a coupon for 25% off for Memorial Day.  The company owns multiple restaurants in our area and I had been to another one (True Food Kitchen) before, which was amazing, so I had high hopes for this one. It did not disappoint.  One thing the company prides itself on is using natural, fresh ingredients.

On the way to the restaurant Matt and I had both gotten a text from a mutual friend. With good news. Her boyfriend had proposed and they just got engaged!  We are both so excited for them, they are both amazing people.

There was a short wait when we arrived, so we ordered a few drinks and then sent this to our friend.

For as busy as the restaurant was, I was super surprised at the quickness of service.  I really think we got our food 10-15 minutes after we ordered.

Didn’t even really have the chance to enjoy these bad boys.

For dinner, I chose the chicken burrito.

Served with a side of rice and vegetarian black beans.

I don’t know what sauce they cooked the chicken in, but this thing was ah-mazing. I had to make sure I paced myself because I was shoveling this in my mouth.  The beans were also really good.

Matt ordered the carnitas tacos.

Served with a side of rice and he opted for the pinto beans. (We both agreed my black beans were better)

But everything was so good. So glad I made the decision to be a bad American and get Mexican on Memorial Day!

wiaw #33 – a visitor from the past

Happy mid-week! I hope everyone is doing wonderful.

It has been kind of stressful around here.  We found out Monday that Matt’s mom was taken to the hospital due to GI problems and severe dizziness.  We’re still not 100% sure what is going on, but she did have some GI bleeding. For those who follow me know how important Matt’s family is to me. His family is my family. Since mine basically abandoned me when I told them I had an eating disorder, Matt’s parents have been more than supportive. They mean the world to me.  So this is hitting me as if it was my own mother. Because really, she IS my mother.

On top of that, school is starting to get to me again. It’s just so much. So quick. I’m doing well don’t get me wrong, but sometimes we all have our freak out moments.

It happens. It’s allowed. And it will pass.

But on to fun stuff.

Dinner time for me is always veg-tastic.

Dinner’s have been kind of boring.
So let me show you some green I have been craving.
It has been way too long since I have had sushi.
Good sushi.
One night I caved and got sushi from Trader Joes. Now, I love everything Trader Joes, but it just wasn’t the same. Way too much rice.
So if a certain someone is reading -cough Matt- a sushi date would be highly appreciated.

Hello my loves!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far!

Mine are of course is busy busy busy.

But after a relaxing weekend, I suppose its ok.

The weekend ended with this.

i seriously bought this wine strictly by the label design. i’m such a sucker for pretty bottles and designs.

The night was not planned to end with wine. It was actually quite a relaxing Sunday. Matt and I lounged around for a bit. Hung a few pictures in the new place, and then we decided we each would have a pamper day. I got a pedicure (obsessed ♥) and he went to a local bar and grabbed a few beers to wait for me. After my pedicure I met him at the bar and we sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous weather. His tummy started to rumble, so he ordered a small order of their sweet potato fries (which are amazing) and I of course had to have a side of BBQ. Well let’s say Matt may have had a few too many beers while waiting for me, because the day ended with my water spilled onto my phone and me wearing the BBQ sauce.

Insert bottle of wine.  I actually found the situation quite funny (only because my phone was ok) and I told him we should walk over to the market and get a bottle of wine for me. I deserved it. We then enjoyed the rest of the evening at home watching Burn Notice on Netflix.

A great way to end my night if you ask me.

But on to other important things.  A Giveaway!.

Have I not been on a giveaway spree lately? It seems like it.

I was introduced to a new product by the lovely Heather when sent me a little sample of her Incredible Greens that she reviewed recently.
I quickly added it to my meals and really enjoyed it, so I contacted Jonathon and let him know I had enjoyed his product.
He responded in offering me my own free container and also the opportunity to host a giveaway.

I was super excited as I already knew what a great product it was and knew it was pretty tasty. Extra excited I get to share it with you guys!
So here is how I made some of my meals more green!

I first did a taste test on its own.
I actually did two glasses. One with just water. And one with almond milk.
Obviously the almond milk was the tastier one, it added a nice creaminess, but I will say water alone was not to shabby either.
I mentioned previously that I actually like the “greens” taste, but some can be really nasty.
This one actually was not.
But if I am to just drink it, I think I will typically opt for the almond milk route. But to each their own.

I added it to a few other typical dishes. Didn’t change the flavor much which I liked. Most of them you couldn’t even tell it was in there.

Oh wait. I actually love greens!

omelet, green smoothie, banana oatmeal pancake, and banana oats

All were delicious and I could barely, if at all, taste the greens! Win!

I also used the last of my plain Chobani greek yogurt and made a little dip!

Hey why not?

This ended up going on top of an un-pictured sweet potato. I think I also added some cinnamon.

It.Was.Great.

Delilah thought so too!

i think she misses me experimenting in the kitchen!

Overall if you are looking for a easy way to get your greens and extra nutrition in, this is a great product to try!
