louis & claire get married

Friends, Hello!!

I know it has been quite a while and I hope you have not forgotten about me, I have not forgotten about you! I really have missed writing this blog and am sad that I have not been more consistent with it. I think you all know that life just happens, we get busy, and time slips away from us. I mean, can you believe it is already October?? I have been doing a lot of thinking, goal setting and am really trying to start doing things that better serve me and my interests and passions. But me and my scatter brain hopping from one thing to another, sometimes time and tasks just get away from me.  In the future I really hope to start providing you with quality information and topics, not just my random life happenings. Although sometimes random life happenings are just as interesting to read about!

With that being said, I come to you today with random life happenings! But such a happy one that I just had to share.

I currently am on a plane right now coming back from Indiana where Matt and I attended our good friends Louis and Claire wedding reception. They are friends of ours that we had went to college with in Indiana, then sort of followed out to Arizona. It was one of those trips that I feel like we traveled more than we visited, but we wouldn’t have missed this day for the world. It is always good to go back and see old friends and celebrate such important events with those we love.

Louis and Claire

♥ ♥ ♥

Their ceremony was on Saturday and family only, so we booked our flight for Saturday morning so we had one night to spend in Indianapolis before heading down to Southern Indiana where the reception was on Sunday. If you fly you know all the cheap flights are bright and early, so we booked the earliest flight to give us some time to settle into a hotel and have some dinner, there was a 3 hour time difference so even though we flew out at 7am, we “arrived” at 3pm. But even with an early flight we made time to hit up our favorite Dutch Brother’s for a coffee to start our trip.

♥ ♥ ♥

♥ ♥ ♥

You know you’re a regular when instead of going to the walk up window at 6:30am like your normally do, but go through the drive thru at 5:30am, and get the immediate response of “what are you doing in the drive thru and why are you so early???” from the staff. This is one reason why Matt and I go to Dutch Brother’s every morning. Yes I may be addicted to their coffee, but it’s the experience that we get. They really take the effort to get to know you and truly start our days off on a positive note. They alway’s put us in good moods, and at 5:30am, we needed that!

With out coffee’s in hand we were off to the airport! And of course as soon we get there airport selfies were to be had.

♥ ♥ ♥

Matt for some reason loves to drink on the plane, and even though we had a short flight to Las Vegas for a short layover, he insisted on getting a drink, that we both had to chug immediately.

♥ ♥ ♥

That’s my husband.

One thing I insisted on doing at the Las Vegas airport was play a slot machine. And even though we were almost late to board our plane, I think it was worth it!

Winner!

We landed in Indianapolis and went off to find a hotel. Matt thought it would be fun and spontaneous to not pre-book a room, and little did we know that there was some sort of racing event and high school sports team competitions going on, so a lot of the hotels were booked or only had one or two rooms available. We thankfully found one with not much trouble, checked in and headed out to find somewhere to eat. We drove around our old neighborhood, and was amazed at how much it’s changed and hadn’t changed all at the same time. Since we were both pretty hungry instead of driving aimlessly around we of course just settled for something we both love. Sushi.

♥ ♥ ♥

Sushi Dinner

♥ ♥ ♥

In hindsight and driving around later there were probably so many better choices and new places we could have checked out, but you know when you’re hungry and everything and nothing sounds good at the same time? That’s where we were at. Sushi usually doesn’t disappoint.

It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t the best sushi I have ever had.

After dinner we had plans to meet up with one of our friends who recently opened up his own brewery called Big Lug Canteen. He is the head brewer, so we were really excited to taste the beers and catch up. Since the last time we had seen them, the couple had gotten married and had a kid, so it had been quite awhile.

♥ ♥ ♥

img_6573

♥ ♥ ♥

The beer and food were both amazing and so was the company. It was so great to hang out with them and catch up. We ended up talking for over 3 hours before we all knew it! They had to get home to their son and Matt and I were both exhausted from the trip and were ready to settle in for the night.

Even when I’m on vacation or on a trip I always seem to get up early. It doesn’t matter the time zone, time difference, the type of trip. I get up early. While Matt continued to snore away, I decided to find the hotel gym. I’m following a new program, but didn’t have a portable DVD player so I just kind of winged it. One thing I love about having completed a few programs, I have favorite moves that I know work me. So even though this hotel gym only had a few treadmills and minimal free weights. I made it work.

And was a pretty sweaty mess by the end of it!

♥ ♥ ♥

♥ ♥ ♥

I headed back to the room where Matt had finally woken up. Our hotel actually had a decent continental breakfast, but we wanted to explore some more, so we headed to a really fun looking restaurant that served more local fresh ingredients called The Garden Table.

I had looked at the menu before we went and was pretty set on getting an Acai Bowl, but upon walking in and chatting with the friendly staff, they highly recommended the two salmon specials they had. One was a smoked salmon on house made sprouted bread with cream cheese and the other was a poke salmon with thai inspired kimchi and bok choy. Both sounded delicious and the couple sitting next to us actually had ordered both and raved about them. A staff member was taking his break and had ordered the smoked salmon and showed me how it was plated, so I decided to branch out and try that.

I was a bit nervous, I usually don’t do these savory type of breakfasts, but oh my gosh it did not disappoint.

The salmon was ah-mazing. Absolutely cooked and seasoned to perfection.

♥ ♥ ♥

img_6588

♥ ♥ ♥

I was beyond happy with my choice and so glad I decided to branch out.

Before leaving town I wanted to stop by a local doggy bakery that I use to go to quite often for cookies and treats for Delilah. I swear these treats look good enough to eat myself!

♥ ♥ ♥

♥ ♥ ♥

After we grabbed the dogs some doggy donuts we headed down to the wedding fun!

And it was sooo much fun. It was nice to catch up with old friends at the reception and then head to Louis’ parents for a cook out and campfire. Even though it was a busy short trip, we wouldn’t have missed it for the world and had an amazing time celebrating with our friends.

The drive back to the airport was bitter sweet. There are simple beautiful things I love about Indiana.

You don’t have little meadows like this in Arizona.

wedding story part 3: the big day

The day finally arrived.

I can not even begin to describe the day. Mainly because I do not remember most of it. It is so true what everyone say’s that your wedding day will fly by. It was truly a surreal moment. As I’m typing this and trying to recall all the events I am relying heavily on photo’s, however with all the chaos of the day, I don’t even have that many to turn to!  I’m still waiting on my professional photographs, so hopefully that will help jog my memory.

I can tell you, the day was magical and it ended with me being married to my best friend. My husband. And that is all that matters.

♥ ♥ ♥

Quirk_0003

♥ ♥ ♥

I also was blessed with an amazing wedding party, friends and family, because if anything went array during the day I didn’t know about it. And I am happy to report I think I had only one or two bridezilla moments.

So I know most of you know how weddings go, so here are a few moments that from my day, how I felt, and the amazing end result of marrying the love of my life.

♥ ♥ ♥

W1

♥ ♥ ♥

Getting ready was surreal. The whole time my hair was getting done and we were doing make-up it just seemed like another day.  My sister warned me as soon as I put my dress on things would change and I can’t tell you how right she was. Even just putting my under garments on and I started to see things come together, it really started to hit me about what was happening.

♥ ♥ ♥

W2

♥ ♥ ♥

I’m a little bit jealous of the guys. I mean really it probably took them a whole 30 minutes to get ready, then they got to relax and watch everything unfold. I’m sure at this moment I was upstairs freaking out of my one bang strand being out of place…

The ceremony was an absolute blur. I somehow got my vows out, but honestly the whole time I was just staring at Matt. We both could not stop smiling.

Soon it was that time.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride”

♥ ♥ ♥

W6

♥ ♥ ♥

I was told by a guest it was one of the longest kisses she’s seen at a wedding, but I think we both kind of forgot where we were and just got lost in the moment.

We soon came back to reality and made our way back down the aisle as a married couple! I love some of the shots my guests got for this moment because you can truly see how happy we are!

♥ ♥ ♥

W3

♥ ♥ ♥

W5

♥ ♥ ♥

Then it was time to party!

I of course don’t have many photo’s as I was too busy being pulled in 1987383274 different directions the whole night. We had initially planned on having 50 people tops, but some how that number crept up to 75. It was so humbling and amazing to have that many people want to come and celebrate with us, but it did remind me why we wanted to keep the number low in the first place. I did not have nearly enough time with  my guests as I would have liked.

I tried my best to spend as much time as I could and one thing that helped was instead of the traditional clink the glasses to get us to kiss, we made a kissing game where our guests had to challenge us to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors using cards we made with beer bottle caps (our wedding was craft beer themed). It was a good way for us to be able to interact with more guests.

♥ ♥ ♥

10355804_473543542795359_5300547762387823307_n

♥ ♥ ♥

There was a very important man however who did get some special quality time with the bride.

My dad and I’s relationship has really blossomed over the last few years. As we were dancing we both joked about how we forgot people were watching us and we were probably boring them because we were so busy talking during our dance. He did try and spice it up at the end and dipped and twirled me.

♥ ♥ ♥

W4

♥ ♥ ♥

Gotta keep the guests entertained! But I think they took care of that on their own.

We made a hashtag for the wedding, so if you guys want to see more random reception pictures check out the hashtag #quirkwedding15 on Instagram.

I really could not have asked for more at my wedding. Everything turned out amazing, I had so much fun seeing and celebrating with friends and family and at the end of the night I was officially Mrs. Quirk.

wedding story part 2: the days leading

Hello loves!

I am back as promised with more wedding fun!

I still can’t believe I am actually married! Everyone asks what feels different and my response is always “everything and nothing!” I mean, Matt and I had been together for almost 10 years before we got married, so nothing really has changed, but honestly, everything has changed! I mean, we’re married!

I’m not going to lie though, I love calling him my husband.

♥ ♥ ♥

So I left you with my bachelorette party. After all those shenanigans went down it was time for the final countdown.

Before all the wedding excitement was going to happen and Matt and I wouldn’t have time to breathe, there was one thing we had to get accomplished.

Our marriage license!

♥ ♥ ♥

5

♥ ♥ ♥

It was a little surreal doing the whole raise your hand and swear thing and we we’re probably a little too over giddy as we left, but we were excited.

And it wouldn’t be right of us to not take a silly picture as well…

♥ ♥ ♥

6

♥ ♥ ♥

It’s a wonder why we’re getting married. 😉

Then it was time for the crazy-ness of wedding to begin.

My one bridesmaid came in on Thursday with her family, so I met up with them that night for dinner. We ended up going to an outdoor mall we have and had dinner at one of Matt and I’s favorite spots.  Unfortunately the service was less than impressive, but we still managed to have a nice dinner and caught up a bit. One thing I love about my friends is even if I haven’t seen them in years, when we do see each other it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat.

♥ ♥ ♥

11

♥ ♥ ♥

And I can’t say enough for how much she did for me leading up and during the wedding.  Her mom also was beyond words helpful. From making little crafts for the reception, to running errands before and during the wedding. Honestly, I was so blessed to have them be a part of my wedding and my life. Kimmie has truly been my best friend since high school and I never see that changing!

The next day my family flew in! I not only was excited to see them, but also getting to see my nieces again! They grow so quickly and I really wish I could see them more often, so I really cherish the time I can get with them!

♥ ♥ ♥

13

♥ ♥ ♥

I mean seriously, how cute are these two!!

The day before the wedding Kimmie and my sister came over so we could practice make up.

I had to laugh because I had bought new make up specifically for the wedding, but I ended up using most of Kimmie’s.

♥ ♥ ♥

7

♥ ♥ ♥

My sister never wears make up, so it was real fun to do her’s and see her reaction.  You could honestly just tell she felt “pretty”. Don’t get me wrong, she is beautiful without make up, but to see someone feel pretty is amazing. Kimmie had this amazing eye lash extender mascara that I was pretty much obsessed with.

♥ ♥ ♥

8

♥ ♥ ♥

I mean just look at those lashes!

(and those duck lips)

After we were done playing with make up, I treated the girls to a mani and pedi. It was so nice to just chat, have fun and get pampered together!

♥ ♥ ♥

12

♥ ♥ ♥

After our mani and pedi’s we decided to do a quick lunch before we had to get ready for the rehearsal.  I took them to one of my favorite brunch spots The Breakfast Club where we sat outside on the patio and just chatted some more.

♥ ♥ ♥

9

♥ ♥ ♥

I wish we could have sat there afternoon, it was such a beautiful day and I loved just being with my girls.

But as with it seems most of the days leading up to the wedding, time flew and it was soon time for us to get ready for the rehearsal.

Things went pretty quickly and smoothly at the rehearsal and I was pretty confident the ceremony would be just fine.  Our officiant was one of Matt’s dodge ball friends who basically has the same humor we do, so I knew he would keep the crowd entertained. He also made me a side secret promise to have my favorite vodka in a flask for me for before the ceremony. (he did not disappoint)

A quick wardrobe change and we were off to the rehearsal dinner which was at BJ’s Brewhouse. We thought a brewery for the rehearsal dinner was fitting to our craft beer themed wedding.

♥ ♥ ♥

10

♥ ♥ ♥

(funny side story: matt kept gushing about how pretty i looked that night and complimented the dress i bought and told me if i looked half as good in my wedding dress as i did in this dress i was going to look amazing. my response “well considering this dress was $15 from walmart i better look 1000 times better. we both had a good laugh)

Again, it was so amazing to sit, relax, and chat with the whole family and friends. It is so rare that everyone is ever in the same place at the same time, so if it takes getting married to get everyone is one place, I wish I could get married all the time.

Matt and I did the whole traditional not staying together the night before the wedding, so he was a gentleman and walked me to my room and kissed me good night. I think we both knew we wouldn’t be sleeping much that night…

We would only be thinking about what was happening the next day.

♥ ♥ ♥

We were getting married.

wedding story part 1: the bachelorette party

Hi there.

Hopefully you all still remember who I am, because goodness knows it has been awhile. Trust me, there was so much goodness that I wanted to share with you all, but I can not even begin to describe the whirlwind that has been my life lately.

As most of you know I was planning a wedding and I think it’s an understatement to say how stressful planning a wedding is. I basically planned the whole thing myself, as Matt was really busy, and with my family being across country, sometimes it was hard for them to help, even though they really wanted to. I will say I did have some angels in disguise with an amazing bridesmaid who’s mother helped me out tremendously. It’s one of those situation where words, gifts, praises can not even begin to re-pay them for all they did for me!

I know you are all wanting the juicy details, but so much fun happened before the actual wedding I figured I would do a little series leading up to the big day and then our honeymoon to Denver and Boulder Colorado.

I will leave you with a sneak peak of the wedding to come…

♥ ♥ ♥

wedding1

♥ ♥ ♥

But before the wedding shenanigans even happened, other shenanigans had to be had.

I didn’t have a bridal shower or bachelorette party, as honestly, no one planned one for me. With only having two bridesmaids, both being back in Indiana, and most of my friends spread out over the country, it just wasn’t something I really cared if I had or not. I had been planning with my mom to have a family bridal shower in the summer when I had time to get back to Indiana, so I just figured that would be that….

Well. My co-workers actually humbled me very much and threw me a surprise bachelorette party!

It’s not that I don’t get along with my co-workers, I do! But I honestly just did not expect them to do something like this for me. Again, a humbling experience…followed by fun experiences…

Including penis cakes.

♥ ♥ ♥

1

♥ ♥ ♥

Here’s how the surprise went down… and how “they ruined the good surprise on me”

It was one of my co-workers birthday’s and she had asked me if I wanted to have dinner with her and her friend to celebrate. In my mind it worked out perfectly because it fell on the weekend that Matt was going camping for his bachelor getaway, so I would be home alone that weekend.

Well, that day my dog had a little episode.  She has been having mini seizures and literally as I was walking out the door to go to dinner, it seemed like she had one. She comes out of them pretty quickly, but it just left me nervous to leave her home alone.  I texted my co-worker the situation and got a pretty emotionless response of how we had made plans and she was on this side of town “just for me”. Needless to say it put me in a pretty bad mood and I thought it was really heartless for her not to care that I thought my dog just had a seizure. Of course I got a little attitude back only to quickly get a call from another co-worker telling me what was going on – that they had planned a surprise party, everyone was waiting and that is why the previous co-worker said she thought I should still go.

Well… I felt like a jerk.

After making sure Delilah was ok, I did head out to dinner to where I had a table full of co-workers all laughing at me for almost not coming to my own party.

We met at one of my favorite Mexican spots Blanco Tacos and Tequilla.

It started so innocently with some margaritas.

♥ ♥ ♥

2

♥ ♥ ♥

(with a not so innocent photo bomb)

We played a few bachelorette party games, had a few more drinks… and well you know how these kinds of parties go down.

♥ ♥ ♥

3

♥ ♥ ♥

It was a really great surprise and so much fun.

After dinner a few of us headed to a local dive bar only to walk in on very bad karaoke and questionable bar patrons.

Well, we tried to make the best out of it and I did manage to get a whipped cream shot from the bartender.

♥ ♥ ♥

4

♥ ♥ ♥

It was short lived and we decided to soon call it a night.

Overall I had a great night and I am so thankful that they put this together for me!

Well loves I leave you with that, next will the days leading to the wedding.

♥ ♥ ♥

If you’re married, did you have a bachelorette party?

adventures in wedding planning

So I come to you today in awe that 1. It is already December and 2. It is less than 4 months until my wedding!

If you couldn’t guess that is why I have been a little MIA lately. I can not even begin to describe how busy I have been lately. Work and wedding panning has basically taken over my life.  I am happy to report that I am slowly but surely getting things done.

First exciting thing? We got our engagement photo’s back and I couldn’t be more in love with them.

I don’t want to bore you and bombard you with pictures of myself, I’m not that vain, but here are a few of my favorites.

♥ ♥ ♥

♥ ♥ ♥

And if you couldn’t guess, yes we are having a beer themed wedding.

So I must say I have been pretty proud of myself for getting a lot of the wedding stuff done by myself. Matt really is no help, but 1. He’s a guy and 2. He has been very busy doing free lance work. This free lance work is helping pay for the wedding, so I can’t be too mad at him for not being very involved in the planning, but it has also made it that much more stressful for me. Thankfully my mom took some time off and flew out for a few days to help me get some things done.

Let me tell you she was a huge help.

We scheduled a menu tasting the day she flew in and unfortunately her flight was delayed and she was late to the tasting, but she made it just in time for the good stuff!

Some of the items we tasted:

(what i ate wednesday style)

♥ ♥ ♥

Hor d’oeurves

Smoked Salmon Mousse Canape

1

The salmon was amazing. I am a huge lox and cream cheese fan and I am not sure what type of “bread” this was on, but the combination was just spot on. It’s sad that on my wedding day I probably won’t get to eat my hor d’oeuvres as they will be served during cocktail hour which is when we will be taking our photo’s, but maybe I’ll be able to snag a few.

♥ ♥ ♥

Salad

Baby Spinach, Walnuts, Dried Cranberries, Bleu Cheese Crumbles (we are substituting feta) and Raspberry Vinaigrette

2

All I can say about this salad is the homemade raspberry vinaigrette dressing, was by far the best I have ever had.  There was bread on the table that I kept taking in order to wipe up every last drop of this dressing.

♥ ♥ ♥

Entrees

Pretzel Chicken with Honey Dijon Sauce

3

This will be served with garlic mashed red potatoes and green beans. I was seriously blown away at how good this chicken was.  I honestly thought it just might be meh, but the chicken was so moist and flavorful.

The other guest option will be a steak, but for Matt and I’s personal meals, we upgraded to a salmon dish.

♥ ♥ ♥

Cast Iron Seared Salmon with Mango-Apple Chutney

4

Served with garlic mashed red potatoes and green beans.

Again, the salmon was cooked to perfection.

Needless to say I am more than excited to eat on my wedding day. I just have to make sure I don’t spill any on my dress! I’m not known to be the cleanest eater…

♥ ♥ ♥

After the tasting my mom went to her hotel to check in since she had came to the tasting straight from the airport.

We let her clean up and relax a bit and then we met  up again to go out for dinner.

We both have December birthdays and since I will not see her again till after we used this opportunity to celebrate and called this our birthday dinner.  The Bears game was also on that night and with me growing up around Chicago and her still living there it seemed only right to go to a spot where we could watch the game.

♥ ♥ ♥

6

♥ ♥ ♥

We took her to one of our favorite pubs where I got one of my most favorite meals.

I got my usual Ahi Tuna Salad and she opted for a Tavern Burger.

♥ ♥ ♥

5

♥ ♥ ♥

After dinner I of course had to treat my mom to some frozen yogurt.

♥ ♥ ♥

9

♥ ♥ ♥

I think everyone and even my mom is surprised how much food I can pack away. I cleaned my plate and still got a full cup of fro-yo, while my mom and Matt who did not finish their meals were a little modest in the fro-yo department.  I swear I can just always eat.

The next few days were a whirl wind of wedding tasks, including a dress fitting, appointments with the florist, wedding favor shopping and assembling, but one last fun thing we were able to do together was she taught me how to make her famous pumpkin nut roll.  This thing is a high commodity during Christmas time, and now I am so excited that I will be able to make it on my own. It was also fun just spending that time with her, baking, and bonding.

♥ ♥ ♥

10

♥ ♥ ♥

So overall the visit with my mom was a great one. Yes I was completely wiped by the end of it, but it was so nice to not only get to spend some time with her, but also get more items checked off my wedding to-do list.

I can’t promise that I won’t disappear again.

I swear, this wedding will be the death of me.

♥ ♥ ♥

Do you have any traditions your parents passed down to you?

wedding wins and happenings

Hi loves. I’m still alive. I promise.

My weekend just started and I feel like it’s almost over. Oh the joys of working every Saturday.

But that won’t be changing anytime soon, so I guess I should just stop complaining about it.

I’ve been keeping busy with the whole wedding stuff and actually getting a lot done!

We got some of our engagement photo’s back and I am just in love with them! Our photographer is seriously amazing and the main thing I loved about our session was we didn’t do the cheesy posed pictures. She actually told us we weren’t allowed to do any (I did request a few specific poses) but she wanted us to basically just hang out, be ourselves and she would capture the true emotion.

And she did!

 ♥ ♥ ♥

2014-11-06_0008

 ♥ ♥ ♥

We did some inside the bar and our photographer actually found this really awesome hallway to do some shots in. I think they all turned out great and I can’t wait to get more back.

 ♥ ♥ ♥

2014-11-06_0021

 ♥ ♥ ♥

Other things checked off the wedding to-do list, I finally chose my bridesmaids dresses and I bought my wedding shoes! It seems like all my purchases have kind of been not planned, just felt right, but I think that’s the way it should happen.

As for the bridesmaids dresses, my sister went to try on dresses I liked and randomly tried on another one she liked and I ended up loving it best! I went to a local store to look at color swatches and they offered to let me try on the dress. What girl doesn’t like trying on dresses?

 ♥ ♥ ♥

5

 ♥ ♥ ♥

I will have it in more of a light cappuccino color that I think will go really well with our theme.

As for my shoes I went just going to get a feel for what heel height I wanted. I found two pairs that I liked…

 ♥ ♥ ♥

7

 ♥ ♥ ♥

One pair I really thought was a classic shoe and the other had a little glam to it. I of course wanted a little more glam and it turned out they were on sale so I figured why not.  Well turns out they were on extra sale and I got an extra 50% off the already reduced price. So let me just tell you, I paid $15 for my shoes.

#weddingwin

Now if I could just get Matt to choose and decide what he is going to wear… that would be nice.

Boys gotta love them. At least he does cute things randomly for me though.

Like when he went to our local coffee spot to get us some coffees, I stayed home to start breakfast.

My iced Americano had a very special message.

 ♥ ♥ ♥

6

 ♥ ♥ ♥

His and hers coffee. That coffee tasted extra good.

And if that didn’t make breakfast all the better, Matt was actually a sweetheart and had dinner ready for me after an extra long day at work.

 ♥ ♥ ♥

1

 ♥ ♥ ♥

Baked chicken with quinoa, steamed broccoli and I toasted up a bread stick from Great Low Carb Bread Company in the oven when I got home .  They sent me a few new products and this was one of them.  I will admit that they aren’t as buttery as I would like and were a little dry, but I loved the texture of them. I did discover that they are a great dipping vessel. And you guys know how I love to dip!

I made a little marinara dip and solved that problem.

 ♥ ♥ ♥

3

 ♥ ♥ ♥

In sending me their new products I begged them to send a few more of their squares. I love these things!

The brownie is by far one of my favorites to use as my dessert.

 ♥ ♥ ♥

4

 ♥ ♥ ♥

And let’s be real, anything topped with reddi-whip is extra amazing.  Matt and I randomly picked up a bottle at Target the other day and I seriously forgot how simply good it was. And yes we do reddi-whip shots each time we use it. You just have to, I think it’s a rule.

Well loves it’s Sunday, so I’m off to do what I do best.
Drink beer and watch football.

wedding fun and dinners out

Hello loves! Long time no talk!

As always I have been busy busy busy, but this week I actually have two days off from work, so I am trying to take advantage and catch up on a few things. Of course wedding planning takes the forefront, but I also thought since it was What I Ate Wednesday time, I would give you guys a little sneak peak into what I’ve been eating lately.

♥ ♥ ♥

Fall into Good Habits: WIAW

♥ ♥ ♥

But while we’re on the wedding talk I will just mention that Matt and I did our engagement photo session over the weekend and had a blast! We did it at a local spot called the Brat Haus.  We chose this location because we wanted it to be a bar scene and not only did their inside bar have some great photo options, but they also had fun outdoor areas to take pictures.

One thing I will say is I love our photographer. She had gotten there before up and as we drove us she basically ran to our car with excitement telling us all the ideas she had. We had so much fun with her and she really wanted us to just be ourselves, hang out and to let her capture our real love. And she let me take an Instagram selfie at the end of the session. A sign of a true great photographer.

We haven’t gotten the photo’s back yet, but she did post a teaser on her blog.

I can not wait to see the rest!

But enough wedding ramble, on to the foods!

I will admit most of it has not been home cooked. We have been eating out like mad people, but honestly I’m not really complaining.

Dinner dates at Whole Foods have been happening a lot.

It just is honestly so convenient after work, and since we have basically become regulars, it just feels like we’re hanging out with friends at the bar and having dinner.

I also think I could eat sushi everyday. And their brussels sprouts on the hot bar.

Which is a good thing because a few days later we had a sushi date with a friend at our favorite sushi spot.

I usually get the Rainbow Roll, but decided to try something new and got their Alaskan Roll, which was spicy salmon, krab mix, and cucumber. Anything from this place is pretty much amazing, their fish is always so fresh.

The lack of cooking continued through out the week. When you have good food so conveniently close to you sometimes it’s just too easy to just eat out or grab something and bring it home.

Enter Chipotle.

Matt and I have a thing that every time we get Chipotle, we have to eat it picnic style and eat on the ground. It’s silly, but it’s because the first time I ever had Chipotle he actually laid out a blanket on the floor and we had a little picnic.

And to keep the Mexican theme going, it was just Taco Tuesday (is this a thing anywhere else? apparently it’s a huge thing here in arizona, but i hadn’t heard of it before moving here).  Soooo of course Matt and I had to go get some taco’s.  I met him for lunch after some errands and taco’s were had.

We were both surprisingly impressed with these taco’s. Carne Asada with a pickled jalapeno salsa, avocado cream, and pickled cabbage. Not only were these taco’s pretty to look at, they were absolutely delicious.  It was the perfect combination of flavors.

Some other tasty treats to mention.

I recently won a giveaway for Bare Snacks Coconut Chips.

Now let me say. I have been on a pretty big coconut kick as of late. And I knew I liked coconut chips to start with, but their chocolate bliss coconut chips. Holy Goodness. These things are ah-mazing.

I’ve been putting them on basically everything, even fro-yo brought home. I mean why pay for mediocre toppings, when I have more delicious ones at home?

And one last thing to mention.

HOLIDAY CUPS.

I may or may not have gotten a little too excited when I got my coffee the other morning and saw the holiday cups were back. I know everyone loves their holiday flavors, but white chocolate mocha’s with soy will always be my winter beverage of choice.

Well loves off to do more wedding fun stuff, I hope you all have a wonderful week.

What is your favorite winter drink?

Do you celebrate Taco Tuesday?

marvelous small things

Sometimes it’s the small things that can make a day marvelous.

It’s been awhile since I have linked up with Katie for her Marvelous In My Monday and with all the crazy that has been going on, I thought it might be nice to stop and recognize that sometimes it’s the small things that can make a day marvelous.

Marvelous is when your go to pay for your Starbucks only to realize you didn’t have enough on your card for your purchase and didn’t bring any other form of payment and the man behind you so graciously offers to cover the rest of the amount. I will tell you, it made the coffee taste that much better knowing it was purchased with kindness. Will definitely have to pay it forward.

Marvelous is when your doctor receives chocolates as a thank you gift from a client and shares it with her staff.

Extra marvelous that they were fancy chocolates that were soooo delicious.

So delicious that I had two.

Marvelous is walking into your local Whole Foods bar to have dinner and having the bartender immediately hand you samples of the new beers they have on tap because she not only saw you walking towards the bar from down the aisle, but knows what type of beers you love and would be excited about.

I would always continue going to Whole Foods for their delicious sushi and hot bar, but it is such an added bonus to have such great service.

Seriously. Love my bartender.

And speaking of Whole Foods…

Marvelous is wedding cake tasting!

Yes, at Whole Foods.  I love the high standards Whole Foods has on their food items and it’s no exception with their cakes. The baker kept informing us of the all natural ingredients that are used and the fact that the ingredient list is not only short, but you can recognize every ingredient used.

He had randomly made us the spice cake because it was his seasonal favorite, but he mentioned since we were having an April wedding we may not want it… After tasting it we decided that it was going to be the top tier of the wedding cake just for the wedding party. It was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever tasted. For the other two tiers we chose chocolate cake with a chocolate butter cream frosting filling and then the bottom tier will be vanilla cake with a Chantilly frosting and raspberry compote filling.

It’s going to be amazing and delicious.

And the last small marvelous thing is actually baking and creating something delicious.

I made a mini batch of protein chickpea brownie bites that even though the recipe may still need a little bit of tweaking, topped with Sweet Spreads coconut butter made them a kitchen success.

So my loves, sometimes its the small things that can make a day marvelous, so I hope you are able to recognize them in your life and embrace them.
