wedding story part four: the honeymoon – denver

Well the honeymoon is over loves, back to reality I suppose.

I am loving writing these wedding story posts because it’s allowing me to relive some of the moments.  As I mentioned, my wedding was just a blur. And honestly, the honeymoon kind of was too. It was so nice to have those days off and to travel, but at the same time I think we focused so much on seeing as much as we could that we never actually took in what we were doing, what had just happened and didn’t really allow ourselves to relax.  This is kind of why I did want to go somewhere tropical and just sit on a beach all day.  But I will say I had a great time in Colorado and it was beautiful, but again time went by way too quickly.

♥ ♥ ♥

Our wedding was Saturday and we didn’t fly out until Monday, so we had Sunday to regroup a little bit. But not too much.  Our wedding was on Easter weekend, so since my family was in town for the holiday we decided to all get together and have Easter brunch together.  After brunch Matt and I went home, tried to organize as much as we can and did our last minute honeymoon packing.  We got a decent amount done, but come dinner time we realized we didn’t have much to eat in the house as we tried not to go grocery shopping, so we did what we do best.

We went to Whole Foods for dinner.

♥ ♥ ♥

Yes, I know. We go there way too often, but it only seemed right.

For our honeymoon we decided to visit Denver and Boulder Colorado as both were two cities we were potentially thinking about moving too in the future.  Since we couldn’t fly into Boulder, we decided to stay a night in Denver and check the city out for a day. I have only been in the Denver airport and never the actual city and have heard amazing things about it.

But before we actually got to our destination, in typical Debbie and Matt fashion we had an eventful plane ride.  I had asked the stewardess if she had any champagne that I could surprise Matt with explaining we were newlyweds and I guess when you ask for a glass you get a bottle!

♥ ♥ ♥

16

♥ ♥ ♥

Another reason why I love flying Southwest. They also announced our recent marriage, and even though they pronounced the last name wrong, it was still very nice. And really. Who doesn’t like free champagne!

Another fun moment.  Matt had ordered a gin and tonic and during the flight managed to spill it completely on me. Thanks husband.  The stewardess was nice enough to get him another, but not without precautions.

♥ ♥ ♥

17

♥ ♥ ♥

Spill your drink, you get a child’s cup and lid.

We landed in Denver around lunch time, but with the whole car renting process and the unexpected traffic, we didn’t get into town until around dinner time.  Thankfully I had packed some emergency snacks of nuts and jerky, so that was basically our lunch eaten in the car stuck in traffic. (random side note: when we had dinner at Whole Foods I randomly picked up Turkey Perky Jerky which is seriously some of the best jerky I have had!)  What a romantic first honeymoon lunch. We finally checked into our hotel, which was gorgeous, and headed out on the town to find a place for dinner. After walking around for a bit we decided on the Paramount  Cafe. We sat on the patio as the weather was beautiful.

♥ ♥ ♥

18

♥ ♥ ♥

Beautiful scenery and a beautiful date.

For dinner Matt ordered the Thai Salmon with rice and vegetables which was delicious. I love salmon, but the sauce definitely stole the show.

♥ ♥ ♥

19

♥ ♥ ♥

I ordered the ahi tuna salad with a sesame ginger dressing which was also delicious.  I loved the sweet salty combination of the mandarin oranges, edamame and peanuts. It was such a refreshing salad.

♥ ♥ ♥

20

♥ ♥ ♥

I will say the best thing about this place was our service. Our waitress was super nice and when we asked her for some suggestions on local places to visit, she wrote down a list of her favorite spots. (come to find out almost everyone in Colorado is incredibly nice)

Before heading out for the night we went back to the hotel to change and freshen up. When walking in Matt said he had a random craving for a gin and tonic so we stopped at the hotel bar. Now I know hotel drinks are way over priced, but I will say this one was worth it. Not only was the bartender super nice, but he was also very knowledgeable and we had really good conversation with him.

He also made me the most amazing cocktail.

♥ ♥ ♥

21

♥ ♥ ♥

It was basically a Manhattan with extra cherries and I think it had a fresh fig juice as the sweetener. All their ingredients were local and made in house. (and just so you know how awesome this bartender was, after our long conversation about beer, when we arrived back to our room that night we had an ice bucket full of random craft beers and a congratulations note from him on our marriage. yup. he was awesome.)

Matt and I had an amazing night out in Denver, we went to a few local bars and ended up at a pizza joint of one of Matt’s old friends who was having a show there that night. Even though it was late and we were full we couldn’t say no to the free pizza that was presented to us. It was just the perfect end to our night in Denver.

The next morning we set out to get some breakfast. We actually initially had plans to have breakfast at a vegan restaurant that Matt had been to once before, but upon arriving found out they did not open until 11am. We ended up just walking around and found another breakfast spot called The Delectable Egg.

I ordered the Green Door Omelet which was filled with tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and I also added some grilled zucchini. It was served with a side of sliced tomatoes and an english muffin.

♥ ♥ ♥

22

♥ ♥ ♥

Matt ordered the Fiesta Skillet minus the eggs.

♥ ♥ ♥

26

♥ ♥ ♥

I give that kid kudos for being able to eat that heavy in the morning, but I am not going to lie, I did steal a few bites and dipped my omelet in his gravy, because that stuff was good.

After breakfast we just lounged around a bit after our showers and packed up as we were just heading up to Boulder after walking around Denver a bit more. We ended up staying in town a little later and decided to have lunch in Denver and then start driving north.  Since we didn’t get to go to the vegan restaurant for breakfast we decided to stop by for lunch.

♥ ♥ ♥

Now, this was an awesome and sad experience all in one. Upon sitting I was so torn on what to order because honestly everything looked amazing.

The Water Course had an amazing atmosphere that I immediately loved. As I studied the menu I ordered a lemon ginger kombucha that they had on tap. Kombucha on tap?
Amazing.

I went back and forth between so many things, but I ended up creating my own salad and topped it with tempeh sausage crumbles. Matt ordered the tofu scramble breakfast burrito and couldn’t decide if he wanted it topped with the vegan sausage gravy or the green chili sauce… so he got half and half.

♥ ♥ ♥

23

♥ ♥ ♥

Now the sad part. My salad was huge, topped with fresh ingredients, and the salad dressing it was served with was amazing. However, the tempeh crumbles were basically lost in the salad and I really felt like I was just eating a huge plate of raw vegetables. What made it worse was Matt’s burrito was amazing. That sausage gravy…I really wish I could have taken a bottle of it home with me. It was the worst case of food envy I have ever had. Thankfully for me his burrito was huge and I basically split it with him.  It was just one of those moments where I actually regretted what I ordered, but as mentioned, Matt’s portion was so huge I was able to enjoy his food. Hey, we’re married now right? What’s yours is mine?

After lunch we packed up and headed to Boulder…

Well, we may or may not have gotten side tracked on the way out of town when we saw this…

♥ ♥ ♥

24

♥ ♥ ♥

I mean our wedding was craft beer themed and one of our points in visiting Colorado were the breweries, so it was only right we stopped for a beer before we left Denver.

We have been long time fans of Great Divide so it was nice to be able to stop in their tap room. I ordered the Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti.

♥ ♥ ♥
25

♥ ♥ ♥

It not only was a beautifully poured beer, it was delicious as well.

We  sat outside on their patio, enjoyed our beers, and then finally headed out to Boulder.

♥ ♥ ♥

I think it’s safe to say the beginning of the honeymoon was pretty marvelous...

wedding story part 3: the big day

The day finally arrived.

I can not even begin to describe the day. Mainly because I do not remember most of it. It is so true what everyone say’s that your wedding day will fly by. It was truly a surreal moment. As I’m typing this and trying to recall all the events I am relying heavily on photo’s, however with all the chaos of the day, I don’t even have that many to turn to!  I’m still waiting on my professional photographs, so hopefully that will help jog my memory.

I can tell you, the day was magical and it ended with me being married to my best friend. My husband. And that is all that matters.

♥ ♥ ♥

Quirk_0003

♥ ♥ ♥

I also was blessed with an amazing wedding party, friends and family, because if anything went array during the day I didn’t know about it. And I am happy to report I think I had only one or two bridezilla moments.

So I know most of you know how weddings go, so here are a few moments that from my day, how I felt, and the amazing end result of marrying the love of my life.

♥ ♥ ♥

W1

♥ ♥ ♥

Getting ready was surreal. The whole time my hair was getting done and we were doing make-up it just seemed like another day.  My sister warned me as soon as I put my dress on things would change and I can’t tell you how right she was. Even just putting my under garments on and I started to see things come together, it really started to hit me about what was happening.

♥ ♥ ♥

W2

♥ ♥ ♥

I’m a little bit jealous of the guys. I mean really it probably took them a whole 30 minutes to get ready, then they got to relax and watch everything unfold. I’m sure at this moment I was upstairs freaking out of my one bang strand being out of place…

The ceremony was an absolute blur. I somehow got my vows out, but honestly the whole time I was just staring at Matt. We both could not stop smiling.

Soon it was that time.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride”

♥ ♥ ♥

W6

♥ ♥ ♥

I was told by a guest it was one of the longest kisses she’s seen at a wedding, but I think we both kind of forgot where we were and just got lost in the moment.

We soon came back to reality and made our way back down the aisle as a married couple! I love some of the shots my guests got for this moment because you can truly see how happy we are!

♥ ♥ ♥

W3

♥ ♥ ♥

W5

♥ ♥ ♥

Then it was time to party!

I of course don’t have many photo’s as I was too busy being pulled in 1987383274 different directions the whole night. We had initially planned on having 50 people tops, but some how that number crept up to 75. It was so humbling and amazing to have that many people want to come and celebrate with us, but it did remind me why we wanted to keep the number low in the first place. I did not have nearly enough time with  my guests as I would have liked.

I tried my best to spend as much time as I could and one thing that helped was instead of the traditional clink the glasses to get us to kiss, we made a kissing game where our guests had to challenge us to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors using cards we made with beer bottle caps (our wedding was craft beer themed). It was a good way for us to be able to interact with more guests.

♥ ♥ ♥

10355804_473543542795359_5300547762387823307_n

♥ ♥ ♥

There was a very important man however who did get some special quality time with the bride.

My dad and I’s relationship has really blossomed over the last few years. As we were dancing we both joked about how we forgot people were watching us and we were probably boring them because we were so busy talking during our dance. He did try and spice it up at the end and dipped and twirled me.

♥ ♥ ♥

W4

♥ ♥ ♥

Gotta keep the guests entertained! But I think they took care of that on their own.

We made a hashtag for the wedding, so if you guys want to see more random reception pictures check out the hashtag #quirkwedding15 on Instagram.

I really could not have asked for more at my wedding. Everything turned out amazing, I had so much fun seeing and celebrating with friends and family and at the end of the night I was officially Mrs. Quirk.

wedding story part 2: the days leading

Hello loves!

I am back as promised with more wedding fun!

I still can’t believe I am actually married! Everyone asks what feels different and my response is always “everything and nothing!” I mean, Matt and I had been together for almost 10 years before we got married, so nothing really has changed, but honestly, everything has changed! I mean, we’re married!

I’m not going to lie though, I love calling him my husband.

♥ ♥ ♥

So I left you with my bachelorette party. After all those shenanigans went down it was time for the final countdown.

Before all the wedding excitement was going to happen and Matt and I wouldn’t have time to breathe, there was one thing we had to get accomplished.

Our marriage license!

♥ ♥ ♥

5

♥ ♥ ♥

It was a little surreal doing the whole raise your hand and swear thing and we we’re probably a little too over giddy as we left, but we were excited.

And it wouldn’t be right of us to not take a silly picture as well…

♥ ♥ ♥

6

♥ ♥ ♥

It’s a wonder why we’re getting married. ;)

Then it was time for the crazy-ness of wedding to begin.

My one bridesmaid came in on Thursday with her family, so I met up with them that night for dinner. We ended up going to an outdoor mall we have and had dinner at one of Matt and I’s favorite spots.  Unfortunately the service was less than impressive, but we still managed to have a nice dinner and caught up a bit. One thing I love about my friends is even if I haven’t seen them in years, when we do see each other it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat.

♥ ♥ ♥

11

♥ ♥ ♥

And I can’t say enough for how much she did for me leading up and during the wedding.  Her mom also was beyond words helpful. From making little crafts for the reception, to running errands before and during the wedding. Honestly, I was so blessed to have them be a part of my wedding and my life. Kimmie has truly been my best friend since high school and I never see that changing!

The next day my family flew in! I not only was excited to see them, but also getting to see my nieces again! They grow so quickly and I really wish I could see them more often, so I really cherish the time I can get with them!

♥ ♥ ♥

13

♥ ♥ ♥

I mean seriously, how cute are these two!!

The day before the wedding Kimmie and my sister came over so we could practice make up.

I had to laugh because I had bought new make up specifically for the wedding, but I ended up using most of Kimmie’s.

♥ ♥ ♥

7

♥ ♥ ♥

My sister never wears make up, so it was real fun to do her’s and see her reaction.  You could honestly just tell she felt “pretty”. Don’t get me wrong, she is beautiful without make up, but to see someone feel pretty is amazing. Kimmie had this amazing eye lash extender mascara that I was pretty much obsessed with.

♥ ♥ ♥

8

♥ ♥ ♥

I mean just look at those lashes!

(and those duck lips)

After we were done playing with make up, I treated the girls to a mani and pedi. It was so nice to just chat, have fun and get pampered together!

♥ ♥ ♥

12

♥ ♥ ♥

After our mani and pedi’s we decided to do a quick lunch before we had to get ready for the rehearsal.  I took them to one of my favorite brunch spots The Breakfast Club where we sat outside on the patio and just chatted some more.

♥ ♥ ♥

9

♥ ♥ ♥

I wish we could have sat there afternoon, it was such a beautiful day and I loved just being with my girls.

But as with it seems most of the days leading up to the wedding, time flew and it was soon time for us to get ready for the rehearsal.

Things went pretty quickly and smoothly at the rehearsal and I was pretty confident the ceremony would be just fine.  Our officiant was one of Matt’s dodge ball friends who basically has the same humor we do, so I knew he would keep the crowd entertained. He also made me a side secret promise to have my favorite vodka in a flask for me for before the ceremony. (he did not disappoint)

A quick wardrobe change and we were off to the rehearsal dinner which was at BJ’s Brewhouse. We thought a brewery for the rehearsal dinner was fitting to our craft beer themed wedding.

♥ ♥ ♥

10

♥ ♥ ♥

(funny side story: matt kept gushing about how pretty i looked that night and complimented the dress i bought and told me if i looked half as good in my wedding dress as i did in this dress i was going to look amazing. my response “well considering this dress was $15 from walmart i better look 1000 times better. we both had a good laugh)

Again, it was so amazing to sit, relax, and chat with the whole family and friends. It is so rare that everyone is ever in the same place at the same time, so if it takes getting married to get everyone is one place, I wish I could get married all the time.

Matt and I did the whole traditional not staying together the night before the wedding, so he was a gentleman and walked me to my room and kissed me good night. I think we both knew we wouldn’t be sleeping much that night…

We would only be thinking about what was happening the next day.

♥ ♥ ♥

We were getting married.

wedding story part 1: the bachelorette party

Hi there.

Hopefully you all still remember who I am, because goodness knows it has been awhile. Trust me, there was so much goodness that I wanted to share with you all, but I can not even begin to describe the whirlwind that has been my life lately.

As most of you know I was planning a wedding and I think it’s an understatement to say how stressful planning a wedding is. I basically planned the whole thing myself, as Matt was really busy, and with my family being across country, sometimes it was hard for them to help, even though they really wanted to. I will say I did have some angels in disguise with an amazing bridesmaid who’s mother helped me out tremendously. It’s one of those situation where words, gifts, praises can not even begin to re-pay them for all they did for me!

I know you are all wanting the juicy details, but so much fun happened before the actual wedding I figured I would do a little series leading up to the big day and then our honeymoon to Denver and Boulder Colorado.

I will leave you with a sneak peak of the wedding to come…

♥ ♥ ♥

wedding1

♥ ♥ ♥

But before the wedding shenanigans even happened, other shenanigans had to be had.

I didn’t have a bridal shower or bachelorette party, as honestly, no one planned one for me. With only having two bridesmaids, both being back in Indiana, and most of my friends spread out over the country, it just wasn’t something I really cared if I had or not. I had been planning with my mom to have a family bridal shower in the summer when I had time to get back to Indiana, so I just figured that would be that….

Well. My co-workers actually humbled me very much and threw me a surprise bachelorette party!

It’s not that I don’t get along with my co-workers, I do! But I honestly just did not expect them to do something like this for me. Again, a humbling experience…followed by fun experiences…

Including penis cakes.

♥ ♥ ♥

1

♥ ♥ ♥

Here’s how the surprise went down… and how “they ruined the good surprise on me”

It was one of my co-workers birthday’s and she had asked me if I wanted to have dinner with her and her friend to celebrate. In my mind it worked out perfectly because it fell on the weekend that Matt was going camping for his bachelor getaway, so I would be home alone that weekend.

Well, that day my dog had a little episode.  She has been having mini seizures and literally as I was walking out the door to go to dinner, it seemed like she had one. She comes out of them pretty quickly, but it just left me nervous to leave her home alone.  I texted my co-worker the situation and got a pretty emotionless response of how we had made plans and she was on this side of town “just for me”. Needless to say it put me in a pretty bad mood and I thought it was really heartless for her not to care that I thought my dog just had a seizure. Of course I got a little attitude back only to quickly get a call from another co-worker telling me what was going on – that they had planned a surprise party, everyone was waiting and that is why the previous co-worker said she thought I should still go.

Well… I felt like a jerk.

After making sure Delilah was ok, I did head out to dinner to where I had a table full of co-workers all laughing at me for almost not coming to my own party.

We met at one of my favorite Mexican spots Blanco Tacos and Tequilla.

It started so innocently with some margaritas.

♥ ♥ ♥

2

♥ ♥ ♥

(with a not so innocent photo bomb)

We played a few bachelorette party games, had a few more drinks… and well you know how these kinds of parties go down.

♥ ♥ ♥

3

♥ ♥ ♥

It was a really great surprise and so much fun.

After dinner a few of us headed to a local dive bar only to walk in on very bad karaoke and questionable bar patrons.

Well, we tried to make the best out of it and I did manage to get a whipped cream shot from the bartender.

♥ ♥ ♥

4

♥ ♥ ♥

It was short lived and we decided to soon call it a night.

Overall I had a great night and I am so thankful that they put this together for me!

Well loves I leave you with that, next will the days leading to the wedding.

♥ ♥ ♥

If you’re married, did you have a bachelorette party?

some recent scenes

Hello loves, yes I am still alive.

I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off because my wedding is less than a month away! I seriously am in denial that in a few short weeks I will be married!!

Things seem to be falling into place, but we’ll find out on the big day if I actually have all my ducks in a row.

(a chicken and a duck metaphor. who am i?)

So needless to say I don’t have any huge news to share with you, but thought I would give you a glimpse into some recent scenes going on around here.

Some new fun finds recently..

♥ ♥ ♥

The new Detour Simple Bar in Salted Caramel Cookie Dough

IMG_4148

♥ ♥ ♥

Guys, just look at that cookie dough goodness. This bar is ah-mazing. It’s like eating dessert, but dessert with a lot more protein and fiber. I am a sucker for almost all things cookie dough and these really hit the mark.

Speaking of dessert.

I am a big fan of Artic Zero to begin with… and combined with a Vitalicious brownie?

♥ ♥ ♥

IMG_4184

♥ ♥ ♥

Yup, I think it’s safe to say we all know this was one delicious dessert.

I don’t remember where I got the brownies, if I found them in a store, or if I bought them online, but regardless I need more of these in my life soon!

And then I saw that Arctic Zero came out with new chunky flavors.

I had to grab one to try and it was a hard decision to choose which flavor I wanted to try.

I finally decided on the cookie dough chip, because remember above when I said I was a sucker for all things cookie dough? Still holds true.

♥ ♥ ♥

IMG_4227

♥ ♥ ♥

This new ice creams are sooo much creamier than the originals. I had heard that the new flavors were totally chunk-tastic as well, and I will say I was a tad bit disappointed with the amount of chunks in this one, but it was still pretty tasty. It just makes me more excited to try some of the other flavors to see how they chunk up.

Other recent scenes?

Matt and I met for lunch one day on my day off. I had a late breakfast so I didn’t eat (don’t worry I had a beer to tide me over) but I defiantly had some burger envy when his lunch came.

♥ ♥ ♥

IMG_4153

♥ ♥ ♥

Actually not going to lie, I had more of a tot envy then anything. Annnnd I may or may not have stolen a few.

I mean seriously. Tater tots.

And I don’t know if you guys will believe this or not, but it had been a bit since Matt and I had gone out for sushi.

We soon had to fix that.

♥ ♥ ♥

IMG_4220 - Copy

♥ ♥ ♥

The only bad thing about me eating sushi… It just makes me want it all the time.  Another sushi date is already in the works.

When we don’t have sushi dates a close runner up is Whole Foods salmon summer roll.

♥ ♥ ♥

IMG_4190

♥ ♥ ♥

I seriously never get tired of this stuff.

Well loves, it’s back to the wedding black hole. I will probably be there for the next few weeks, but I can’t wait to share the wedding happenings with all of you!!

♥ ♥ ♥

Have you tried the new Arctic Zero flavors? What’s your favorite?

getting creative with dessert

Hello loves.

I come to you today with a purpose!

I know you all just loooovvveee my random posts of what I’ve been doing or maybe lack of what I’ve been doing. Seriously I would not blame you guys if you thought all I did was go out to eat and drink beer.

Wait.

That happened too.

♥ ♥ ♥

7

♥ ♥ ♥

But back to my tasty creations.

Remember when I did my Valentine’s Day re-cap and mentioned that Matt absolutely loved his coconut banana chia seed pudding dessert?

♥ ♥ ♥

6

♥ ♥ ♥

Well when we were thinking of what to have for dessert one night I realized I had all the ingredients to make my own. So I thought why not give it a whirl?  I had made chia seed puddings in the past, so I knew the general techniques, but have not used banana’s before. Seemed pretty simple though.

I think my version looks pretty comparable.

♥ ♥ ♥

5

♥ ♥ ♥

But would it taste comparable?

Well regardless of if it tasted exactly like the dessert we had that night, it was delicious.

Coconut Banana Chia Seed Pudding

Ingredients:

- 1 ripe banana

- 1/4 cup coconut milk (or milk of choice)

- 2 tablespoons chia seeds

- 1/2 tablespoon honey (or sweetener of choice)

- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)

- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

♥ ♥ ♥

3

♥ ♥ ♥

Directions:

- Place banana, coconut milk, honey and vanilla and coconut oil if using in a magic bullet or blender

- Blend until smooth

- Fold in chia seeds

- Pour into container and let chill in refrigerator for at least 4-6 hours.

When ready to eat top with more banana slices and coconut chips.

♥ ♥ ♥

4

♥ ♥ ♥

I love making chia seed puddings because they are so simple to make, don’t require a lot of ingredients and can easily be tweaked to so many different flavor profiles.  These might be making more appearances in my dessert or breakfast rotation. Chia seeds give this such a great overall nutritional punch being a good source of protein, fat, carbohydrates and fiber.

Speaking of desserts, I made another pretty epic one recently.

I had finally jumped on the protein cheesecake train and have been having so much fun playing with the flavors. I typically make mine into bars since I have a mini loaf pan and it makes them the perfect size for portable snacks and for single serving desserts.  The other night I wanted to jazz it up and bit and really, what goes better with cheesecake than chocolate….or peanut butter. Or both?

And thanks to this wonderful gem from Chike Nutrition I could have both.

Have my cake and eat it too?

♥ ♥ ♥

1

♥ ♥ ♥

I’ve used Chike Nutrition Coffee Protein drink in the past (obsessed) so when I saw they came out with a new protein powdered peanut butter, I pretty much knew I would love it.

And I did. And I love that they had a chocolate flavor as well. Because I’m pretty sure chocolate and peanut butter are two of my favorite things.

So I made a nice little chocolate peanut butter drizzle to go over my protein cheesecake and basically had the most amazing dessert ever.

♥ ♥ ♥

2

♥ ♥ ♥

So basically I’ve had some pretty delicious desserts lately and with these you don’t have to feel incredibly guilty about eating them because they are packed with nutrition.

♥ ♥ ♥

Have you made chia seed pudding before?

What’s your favorite dessert?

my last single valentine’s day

Hello my loves!

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day regardless of if you are in a relationship or single. I kind of have the outlook that it is just a Hallmark holiday, but I am not going to lie, I am a girl and what girl doesn’t like a holiday about love?

This Valentine’s Day was an extra special one for me. It was the last Valentine’s Day before Matt and I will be married!

Ahh! Seriously guys, my wedding is in a little over a month away. I really hope I have everything together.

But on to my Valentine’s Day recap.

I had to work that morning, but Matt and I had made dinner plans for the evening. We really don’t go all out and just always look forward to a nice evening out together.

My day did start with flowers.

♥ ♥ ♥

1

♥ ♥ ♥

Ok confession. These were not my Valentine’s Day flowers. Matt and I kind of bickered the day before and these were according to Matt “Sorry I was a butthead flowers”. I did get Valentine’s Day flowers (which I had to sit at work an extra hour to wait for because they were delivered late) but those have yet to bloom and these were just as pretty.

And I got Matt in my opinion the best card ever.

♥ ♥ ♥

2

♥ ♥ ♥

Yes,  I got him a giant Valentine’s Day card. I mean. As soon as I saw them, I couldn’t not get it for him.

Before I had to go to work, we decided to go get coffee together.  We stopped at the Starbucks that is next to my work and not only did my barista put a cute foam heart in my Flat White, but they also had cute little photo-booth cut outs laying on the table. Matt and I of course had some fun with them.

♥ ♥ ♥

3

♥ ♥ ♥

Then to make my morning even better, one of my co-workers brought in Einstein Bagels and some of them were shaped like hearts! Super cute. And super yummy.

For our Valentine’s Day dinner we decided to dress up a little bit, and of course had to take some bathroom selfies before we left.

♥ ♥ ♥

4

♥ ♥ ♥

For dinner we chose to go to True Food Kitchen, which is a place we both love, but haven’t been too for awhile.  We knew they would be busy and made reservations for 7:00pm. Before dinner we decided to go grab a drink and of course went to our favorite Whole Foods which was right down the street.

Oh and more selfies happened.

♥ ♥ ♥

5

♥ ♥ ♥

When it was time for our reservation we headed down to the restaurant.

I was pretty hungry so we decided to get an appetizer of their herb hummus and pita.

♥ ♥ ♥

8

♥ ♥ ♥

Oh my goodness. This hummus is amazing. I love the addition of the feta cheese. I really think feta is one of my all time favorite cheeses!

I tried not to lick the whole plate as I was very excited for my entree.

I actually decided to try something new, which for me is rare, once I find a dish I like I usually stay with it, but I was really in the mood for salmon, so I ordered their Thai Green Papaya Salad and added salmon to it.

♥ ♥ ♥

9

♥ ♥ ♥

1. Seriously look at how huge that piece of salmon is. And yes. I ate every last bite.

2. I love how much avocado they give you.

This salad was very fresh, and being a huge lover of kelp noodles, I was excited to see so many of them in the salad.

I definitely would order this again.

Matt ordered the Panang Curry and he added tofu.

♥ ♥ ♥

I of course stole a few bites and it was delicious as well.

And what would Valentine’s Day be without dessert?

I absolutely love their flour less chocolate cake and was looking forward to it during the whole meal.

Matt ordered the Coconut Banana Chia Seed Pudding. It was very very good. I think we both made good choices!

So overall, a very good night out and we had such a great time together.

I am very excited for our next Valentine’s Day which will be our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple!!

no cow bars & other foodie finds

Hey loves, long time no talk huh?

I think it can go without saying that my life has been a bit crazy lately.

Two months today until my wedding!

I can’t believe it!

I feel like I am uneasily calm about the whole thing, but I’m pretty sure we have all things on track.

-fingers crossed-

Even though things have been insanely busy ( and a bit boring ) I do have a few fun things to share with you.

Including some fun foodie finds!

I use to have such a bar obsession, then I think I realized I was eating some pretty crappy bars and just stopped altogether, but now with my crazy mornings at work, I rely once again on bars for a quick little snack and boost. But I didn’t want to go back to crappy bars again.

That led me to doing some research and trying to find higher quality bars made with real natural ingredients.
I stumbled upon D’s NaturalsNo Cow Bars.

Did I mention I’m a sucker for good packaging? I love when companies but effort into not just shoving their products in any ole box.

Upon opening the pretty little box I was welcomed with some delicious looking bars.

So as mentioned I was looking for a non-junk bar. And I think these fit the bill.

They have no artificial ingredients, are dairy, soy and gluten free and have no added sugar.

Sounds pretty good to me!

These bars have a soft texture which I love and were pretty tasty. I thought like my beloved Quest Bars these might be good warmed up, but I am sad to report, not so much. But as I mentioned these bars are pretty soft as is, so they really don’t need it.

Other random fun foodie finds?

Health-Ade Kombucha.

I found this at my Whole Foods, it’s a bubbly kombucha with really neat flavors. I decided to try the Pink Lady Apple first and it was really tasty. Love me some bubbles!

What I love is this company still only uses the three simple ingredients of brewing: tea, sugar and water. It’s organic and made in small batches and they only brew certain flavors when the ingredients are in season. How cool is that?

I’m excited to try more flavors of these!

Another new to me item that I finally tried..

The beet hummus from Trader Joes.

Another item I had been seeing all over Instagram and finally caved in and bought.  It is really good, I would say you definitely need to like beets (which I do), but it’s a nice switch up in flavors.

I have found that I have been relying on pre-packaged items and eating out a lot lately. By time I am done with work, I just have no desire to cook. So a few dinners out may have been happening as well.

But foods out are more interesting anyways right?

Because when a co-worker asks me out for happy hour, how can I say no to wine and pizza?

I mean just look at that cheese.

Then I had pizza again, just in a slightly different form.

Mini english muffin pizza’s! These tasted just as good as they look.

And another new to me fad that I’m sure isn’t new to most of you…

You know when you see a bunch of people do something on Instagram? And you think, that just can’t be as good as they claim.

Well. Sometimes it is.

So let’s make it clear I am a huge lover of avocado. I eat it by the spoonful. I had been seeing people post on Instagram how they sprinkle it with salt. I just couldn’t imagine it making that big of a difference.

Well loves, it does.

I smashed half an avocado on a Rudi’s Organic Spelt English Muffin and decided to sprinkle a little salt on it.

Total game changer. And I now don’t think I will be able to go back.

So thank you Instagram. Thank you.

Well loves, I know it was a short update and I hope to be back soon with more goodies for you.
